When I first got into gardening, I read “Flower Confidential” by Amy Stewart. This behind-the-scenes look at the floral industry opened my eyes. Flowers shouldn’t have to travel by plane halfway around the world for you to enjoy them. Part of the reason I grow dahlias is because they can’t be shipped, making their seasonal blooms extra special.
Dahlias should be a joy to grow in your home garden without the fear of disease or frequent mislabels so common from mega chain stores. I grow dahlias for tubers and cut flowers. Many are the same heirlooms you’d remember from Grandma’s Garden.
Maybe you’ve been looking for that elusive dahlia variety only small growers seem to have.
